How to Improve your Travel Blog

Sure Travel had the pleasure of attending the second Getaway Travel Blog Conference this past Saturday, held in conjunction with Cape Town Tourism, at the Upper Eastside Hotel in Woodstock. And, wow, what a conference it was! Informative, fun, educational, helpful, entertaining and inspiring, the venue was crammed with creative, innovative people crazy about travel blogging.

For those of you that weren’t able to attend, here are 11 steps (super easy to remember and implement) which will help you make your travel blog awesome.

11 EASY STEPS TO IMPROVE YOUR TRAVEL BLOG
1: Share stories and experiences that are unique, meaningful and go beyond the ordinary.
Mariƫtte du-Toit Helmbold from Cape Town Tourism

2: Photos are incredibly powerful on blogs and other social media platforms - share lots of visuals as often as you can.
Keith Jenkins from Velvet Escape

3: Great ideas take work, work, and a little bit more work.
Justin Cam from Getaway

4: Make photographs a maximum of 800 pixels wide and optimize them at 72dpi.

5: Adding social media buttons to your posts makes it easy for your readers to share your content. Make it all as easy as possible – people are lazy!

6: Use analytics to see which are your most popular posts and write similar posts, or turn them into a series.
Nellie Huang from Wild Junket

7: People are bad at understanding logic but superb at understanding stories. Make yours a great story.

Joseph Lawrence from Clickshape

10: Use online influencers and current trends for your benefit – timing is important.
