Holiday Gift Guide for Travellers

While the holiday and Christmas season is meant to be all fun and relaxation, the process of getting to the shops and buying gifts for the whole family can be anything but. So we’ve decided to give you some gift inspiration and have put together the “Sure Travel Holiday Gift Guide” - 10 of our favourite travel-friendly presents we would love to see under the tree this season…

1: KINDLE WI-FI
The days of lugging 3 or 4 books around on your holiday are long over. The Kindle stores up to 1400 books, has an electronice screen that reads like real paper, has no glare even in bright sunlight,is fully wireless and thus doesn't require a computer to download content in an area with Wifi availability. If you don’t have one already, you definitely want to put it on your gift wish list.

2: TRAVEL PILLOW
Nothing beats a good pillow when travelling  - anything that will help you doze easier on the plane is highly recommended. Our pick is a funky travel pillow – preferably in a bright colour or pattern – that you can’t possibly forget behind on your seat when you leave.

3: STYLISH PASSPORT COVER
For a true jetsetter, only a fashionable passport cover will do. Classic black is always stylish or spoil the diva in your life with one in trendy turquoise or any colour of the rainbow. A matching luggage tag, perfect to pop into a Christmas stocking, will complete the look.

4: EYE MASK
Another great stocking filler for those who travel a lot, share rooms when travelling with friends or simply need complete darkness to sleep in at home.

5: TABLET COVER
This one is obvious – why have a boring tablet cover or sleeve when you can have a really cool one?  Moleskine (the legendary notebook brand) now makes classic tablet covers and if you’re looking for something a bit different, there are lots of colourful, patterned, glittery options for your iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab,etc in shops across South Africa.

6: DIGITAL TRAVEL GUIDES
Want travel info at your fingertips without having to carry the weight of a book? Lonely Planet PDF eBooks are PDF versions of the Lonely Planet guides, available as either individual chapters or complete guides. PDF files can be read on eReaders, tablets, smart-phones and PCs wherever you are in the world. Simply purchase the guide online, and you will then be sent an email with a link to download – a wonderfully useful travel present.

7: GOPRO CAMERA
Need to buy something for an adneralin junkie, outdoors lover or just want to spoil yourself? You want the GoPro Hero3 camera! This nifty little camera is claimed to be the world’s most versatile camera – and it certainly appears to be so. Wearable and gear mountable, waterproof and capable of capturing 1080p 30 fps and 720p 60 fps video plus 5MP photos at a rate of 3 photos per second, the GoPro is the ultimate “active” camera. If you’re into travel, photography, mountain biking, surfing, snorkelling, game drives, flying, skydiving, skiing, kayaking, etc you are going to be begging for one of these as a gift.

8: PICNIC BASKET
Love camping, hiking, outdoor concerts, picnicking on the beach, by a dam or in the park? Then this picnic backpack is an ideal present. Containing utensils, a blanket, wine cooler and instruments for food preparation, this new take on the traditional picnic basket is, best of all, easy to carry.

9: COFFEE MACHINE
Now we know this isn’t a strictly ‘travel gift’ but we just couldn’t resist! Beat those post-holiday blues with this little coffee marvel. With a built-in conical burr grinder that allows you to grind only what you need directly into your espresso filter, in under a minute, the Breville Espresso Machine Bean to Cup will give you a little something to look forward to each morning.

10: NEW LUGGAGE
Tired of desperately trying to locate your boring black luggage on the airport conveyor belts? Never lose your luggage again with the new Cellini Air expandable 4-wheel trolley. Available in gorgeous, bright colours – with delightful names such as Raspberry, Appleberry, Blackberry and Blueberry – these trolleys are available in carry-on, medium and large sizes. There is just something about having matching luggage - beauty case, tote bag, etc – that screams jetsetter.
