Crystals Beach Resort in Mauritius

The first in our series reviewing the 8 hotels on our recent Sure Travel educational to Mauritius, is Crystals Beach Resort. Crystals is a relatively new 4* boutique hotel, an hour's drive from the airport on the winding coastal road and is situated on the more secluded east coast of the island.

Read an overview of the Mauritius educational here.
Due to our late flight, it was dark when we arrived at the resort. The warm breeze that was blowing was quite refreshing in combating the humidity. During the winter, the east coast gets the brunt of the trade winds.
Read about when to visit in our Mauritius travel guide.

We were welcomed in style by sega dancers in lovely brightly coloured outfits before settling down to enjoy a traditional Mauritian dinner. On the menu were sambals, fritters (yam and banana chips yum!), a variety of fish salads, crab soup, different types of curries (Mauritian curries are generally very mildly spicy with a touch of sweetness), fish rougaille, fresh baked breads and for dessert, pastries, tarts (flavoured with banana and coconut) and napolitaines (delicious fondant biscuits filled with pineapple jam and coated with pink icing).

Crystals boasts 181 very spacious, modern rooms - some of the most spacious of all the hotels we stayed at. My room for the night was the large junior suite (95m²!) with a lounge area, balcony, huge double shower and whirlpool bathtub. There are different room categories and for families, spacious inter-leading rooms. Some parts of the hotel seem like they are still a work in progress with some details still to be perfected.

Facilities at the hotel include free wi-fi (works in certain public areas only), 4 restaurants, a kids club, spa and conference room. The 1km beach is ideal for kite surfers and there are the usual array of watersports on offer to keep you as busy as you want.

Crystals has a lovely, tranquil atmosphere and would be recommended for couples or for those looking for some peace and quiet in an idyllic Mauritian setting.

Thank you Crystals Beach Resort for so kindly hosting us and for taking the time to show us around their lovely property.
