We feel that it is so important that individuals and organisations continuously give of their time and resources to local initiatives working for the upliftment of our communities. Sure Travel Head Office has been involved with the Amy Biehl Foundation, which works with vulnerable youth in the Western Cape, since 2014.
This June, Sure Travel sponsored two domestic air tickets for the Amy Biehl Foundation Managing Director, Kevin Chaplin, and Programmes Manager, Ntobeko Peni, to attend a fundraiser and talk at local schools in Johannesburg.
The Amy Biehl Foundation is a non-profit organisation that offers programmes to develop and empower the youth living in the vulnerable communities of the Western Cape. The programme offers creative and cultural activities designed to supplement the educational shortcomings of many schools in South Africa's townships.
The Foundation operates 5 after-school care centres in Gugulethu, Philippi, Bontheuwel, Khayelitsha, and Athlone. Over 1800 children attend daily. The Foundation offers a wide-array of programmes including music, HIV/AIDS peer education, greening and environment, literacy, creative arts, drama & dance, sport, and computer literacy.
“Over 50% of children in South Africa who start Grade R do not sit to write grade 12. This and the high level of teen pregnancy, unacceptable level of teen gangs, violence and tik abuse is why the need for the Amy Biehl Foundation is so big” ~ Amy Biehl FoundationSure Travel has also supported the Foundation’s fundraising activities, such as sponsoring a table at the 2015 Gala Dinner, the biggest occasion in the organisation’s fundraising calendar.
The Amy Biehl Foundation does incredible work in the most challenging circumstances. Together, let’s change children’s lives.
