Qatar introduced a host of new destinations in 2016 too. Four flights a week between Windhoek, Namibia, and Doha began in September. LA, Helsinki (Finland), Marrakech (Morocco) and Sydney (Australia) also welcomed Qatar Airways flights last year. Good news if you’re heading to Thailand too - Krabi welcomed its first Qatar flight in December 2016.

Qatar Airways flies direct to Doha from:

Joburg - daily
Cape Town - daily
Durban - 4 times a week (with a quick stop in Joburg to refuel and pick up passengers)

Qatar’s hub, Hamad International Airport in Doha, only opened two years ago and already serves more than 28million passengers annually – set to grow up to 50million in 2018.  The airport has also just been nominated the sixth airport in the world to achieve 5 star status. The prestigious 5 star airport rating is awarded to airports achieving the highest overall quality and is awarded by Skytrax, the London-based aviation institute.
